What is LAN

LAN stands for Local Area Network, which allows devices to be all connected on the same network to each other or connected to the internet by one area. These events usually consist tech enthusiasts or gamers wanting to chill in an environment of others or go competitive against many others. Most of these events are only PC Gamers.

However, with Internet rates becoming cheaper and having faster speeds means, to some people, there is no point in doing LAN anymore or think that it's dead. Actually it's in high demand for when people see the chance to go usually. It provides a great social atmosphere and new potential friends.

eSports is Thriving

With the help of innovating technology and for the love of watching TV and events. Gaming is making a bigger appearance as years go on. Companies such as Twitch and YouTube contribute to such live broadcast of these events and even ESPN to make the sport grow rapidly. In 2014, people spent 3.7 billion hours watching any eSport event from any game with the consistent 89 million viewers and predict for a 21% increase of viewers for every new year to come. (majority are from Korea, China/Japan, Europe and USA.)

Summary

Everyone will be connected to a network switch which is then wired to the ethernet port from the school to also have the Internet. With everyone connected to one switch. You are able to also transfer files between other people's PC's, so if someone needs some game files, music, documents or large videos. You can quickly transfer it through the network switch.*

Low Latency

Wired will still be considered the fastest way to transfer information through Internet and offline use. This allows for low latency/ping for games who support LAN comparability to as low as 5ms ping. Online gameplay should still see low ping compared to Wi-Fi or your wired home network. 

Large File Transfers

Discover-able devices and computers can easily allow users to transfer large files between systems where the Internet can only allow specific file size and transfer speeds. Having a gigabit switch allows up to 100mb/s transfer speed among each system**

You would need to allow sharing permissions with your system. We recommend that you back up everything for whatever reason someone attempts to delete files from your system or modify files that you didn't give them permission too.*
